Work with us

Jancat is a small, family-run cafe and art gift shop in downtown St. Thomas. We make everything from scratch — ramen, bubble tea, onigiri, mochi, baked goods — alongside a curated art shop. If you care about good food, genuine hospitality, and being part of something that's growing, we'd love to hear from you.

We're looking for a cafe supervisor to lead afternoon/evening closing shifts while our head chef is off-site. This person will manage prep, oversee 1–2 team members, and be responsible for the quality of both the food and the customer experience during their shift.

This role is well suited for someone currently in food service who is ready for more responsibility, or for a culinary or hospitality student looking for independent leadership experience in a working kitchen.

Grow with us

Jancat is actively scaling, with a growing wholesale and technology division set to expand in the coming year. As the business grows, we invite you to grow with us. We are committed to mentorship and internal advancement, and we prioritize internal candidates when new roles open.

Full-time, salaried positions may become available in operations management, wholesale production, and technology — depending on your strengths, your interests, and the needs of the business.

What we’re looking for

The basics

  • Valid Ontario Food Handler Certificate
  • Minimum 6 months of food service experience
  • Availability for afternoon/evening shifts and weekends is essential. Occasional opening shifts working alongside our head chef may also be required.
  • Ready to be front-of-house — this role is customer-facing, and you'll often be the person greeting, serving, and handling concerns alongside your team
  • Responsible for cash handling, opening/closing procedures, and food safety compliance during your shift
  • Keeps the workspace clean and organized throughout the shift

Who you are

  • Able to learn recipes, retain them, execute them precisely, and teach your team to do the same — customers should get the same quality and speed every visit, regardless of who is working
  • Able to stay calm and keep the team steady during unexpected rushes when pace changes quickly
  • Able to think ahead during service — staging ingredients, repositioning prep, and making small tactical decisions before the team has to ask
  • Patient and approachable when your team comes to you with questions, mistakes, or problems — and able to relay what matters to management after the shift
  • Attentive to how your team is doing — if someone is overwhelmed or off, you notice and you step in
  • Willing and able to teach — as recipes, processes, and standards evolve, the supervisor is the one coaching the team through changes on the floor
Preferred
  • Experience coordinating or leading a small team
  • Background in kitchen prep, barista work, or food production
  • Enrollment in or completion of a culinary or hospitality program

What we provide

Employee discount on all food and beverages and a complimentary drink during your shift
Tipped position (tip program tentatively launching May 2026)
A small, collaborative team where your contribution is visible and valued
A workplace that blends Asian food culture, art, and technology — and a front-row seat to how a small food business grows from a cafe into something bigger
